#AustrianGP 2023: Thursday in the rear-view mirror

Austrian GP: Dutch Fans

Welcome, race fans!

As the Formula 1 Rolex Großer Preis von Österreich 2023 draws nearer, the sense of anticipation among the fans is enormous. As early as Thursday, the sight of the crowds milling around in the Red Bull Ring and of the tents and caravans on the surrounding campsites provided a picture-perfect backdrop.

The dance music was throbbing in the F1 Fan Zone and a carnival atmosphere prevailed in the Steiermark Village. The highlight of Thursday is traditionally the Pit Lane Walk. For almost three hours, fans who had had the foresight to purchase a Pit Lane Walk ticket (together with a weekend ticket) had the opportunity to stroll through the pit lane and get a close-up look at the F1 cars.

Arrival to Spielberg for Formula 1

Internal team duel

Normally, the team managers don’t like it when their drivers go wheel to wheel on the track. An exception was made for today’s internal AlphaTauri duel, much to the delight of Yuki Tsunoda and Nyck de Vries; they were in highly competitive form on the Carrera model track which mirrors the actual Red Bull Ring layout.

The really serious business starts on Friday. Nyck de Vries: “On paper, the course doesn’t look all that difficult, but that’s deceptive. The fact that we’re also doing a sprint here makes the weekend even more of a challenge, because we have less time on the track to get in the right frame of mind.”

Insider tip: The Carrera track is located in the Welcome Center of the Red Bull Ring and is open to the general public throughout the year. Here you can emulate the AlphaTauri drivers and race against your friends.

Opening hours Welcome Center:

Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 18:00 (all year round, except on event weekends).

Styrian hospitality

Styria is famous for its hospitality towards the premier class of motorsport, and this year’s ‘Holiday Grand Prix’ once again lived up to its name. Familiar music played through the paddock on Thursday afternoon – namely the music of the Red Bull Ring ice cream truck, which provided a delicious refreshment in the hot temperatures. In addition, there was a hearty Styrian snack – accompanied by our tractor music.
