Gustl Auinger: Expect Austrian riders in Moto3 soon

Since 2007, future champions of the motorcycle racing World Championship have learnt the trade in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Brad Binder, Johann Zarco and Miguel Oliveira are just some of the youngsters who have successfully made the leap to MotoGP and these days battle for victories and world championship points in the elite class of motorcycle racing.

One who may join them soon is Jose Rueda. “I don’t use the term ‘exceptional talent’ loosely, but Jose is destined for a great future,” says motorsport legend Gustl Auinger, who works as an advisor to the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. With Jakob Rosenthaler, the first Austrian is competing in the Red Bull Rookies Cup for some time, but Auinger is warning against excessive expectations.

Jakob is developing really well, but we can’t forget that patience is needed in this sport. It’s not just about your personal fitness, but you also need to understand the technique and learn to handle it. This takes time, especially for talents from our region, because their careers start much later than those riders from Spain or Italy. I’m quite optimistic though that we’ll have an Austrian in Moto3 again very soon,” says Auinger.
