ADAC GT Masters: BMW success in front of 25.000 fans at Red Bull Ring

Christian Klien took ninth place as the best Austrian. Record attendance at Spielberg.

A full 25,000 fans came to the 2022 edition of the ADAC GT Masters weekend – more than ever before for the event at the Red Bull Ring. They were rewarded with thrilling motorsport action in five racing series, numerous Austrian heroes to cheer on, local winners, autograph sessions and the chance to watch racing up-close.

At this year’s Austrian finale of the International German GT Championship, two BMW teams battled it out for victory. The duo of Ben Green (GBR) and Niklas Krütten (GER) managed to repeat their victory from the day before and therefore took maximum points in Austria. Krütten said: “The day couldn’t have gone much better for us. In the morning I took the pole. It was super tight, and I didn’t expect that. We were able to get everything out of the car. Nicky was pretty close in the first few laps, where I was a bit afraid at times. I knew he wasn’t going to do anything stupid. On the straight, the car was slightly slower than yesterday, but it didn’t really stop us.”

His BMW partner Ben Green added: “Being in the GT Masters in the second weekend and notching two wins is really cool. I hope we can carry this momentum with us into the remainder of the season. We went into the pits at the right time again. That’s how I had clean air throughout my stint. The team’s strategy was perfect again today.” The top Austrian was guest starter Christian Klien and his partner Dennis Lind (DK), who finished ninth.

Podium finish for Austrian KTM pair.

In the Fanatec GT2 European Series, the Austrian KTM duo of Horst Felbermayr Jr and Reinhard Kofler took third place on Sunday ahead of their team-mates, Klaus Angerhofer and Hubert Trunkenpolz. Both driver pairings each started with a KTM X-Bow GT2 from Austrian racing team True Racing by Reiter Engineering, which had already celebrated a home win on Saturday. Other Austrians were in action this race weekend in the ADAC GT4 Germany and in the Porsche Carrera Cup German
