On the weekend of 15th – 17th August, top-level athletic performance meets goosebump moments as the best motorcycle racers in the world return to the Red Bull Ring. In 2025, in addition to Sunday’s race, the sprint format will once again be held at Spielberg. Here, you’ll find all the information on Sprint, Grand Prix, Qualifyings and more, neatly summarized.

During the practice sessions, a distinction is made between Free Practice and Practice. Free Practice sessions give the riders enough time to adapt to the conditions. The first Free Practice takes place on Friday morning. The results of this session have no impact on the starting grid, Qualifying, et cetera.

Practice will follow in the afternoon. Performance here has a significant impact on the rest of the race weekend. The lap times in the 60-minute session will determine the line-up for Qualifying. The Top Ten from this Practice session advance directly to Q2, giving the riders the chance to qualify for positions one to twelve in both Saturday’s Sprint and Sunday’s race.

Things are heating up in Qualifying

Another Free Practice session will follow on Saturday, before things really get down to business with qualifying segments Q1 and Q2. This is where the positions for the weekend’s two races will be fought for.

Q1: This is where all riders who didn’t qualify directly for Q2 during Friday’s Practice get another chance to move up. The two fastest riders from Q1 join the ten already qualified riders in Q2, giving them the opportunity to compete for starting positions one to twelve in both the Sprint and the Grand Prix.

Q2: Here, 12 riders (ten from Friday’s practice, and two from Q1) battle it out for the best grid positions for both, Sprint and Race.
