THANKS to all Wings for Life World Runners!

It wasn’t just Mother’s Day that was being celebrated in Austria on Sunday, but also the sheer joy of living, as the Red Bull Ring hosted the third Wings for Life World Run App Run Event. The App Run Event at the Red Bull Ring once again became a celebration of spinal cord research thanks to countless runners, walkers and wheelchair participants.

Hundreds of thousands of people around the globe have continuously strived toward a common goal – namely to find a cure for spinal cord injury. Meanwhile, on Sunday 10th May, a sizeable crowd gathered on and around the Red Bull Ring to make an important contribution of their own. The Austrian Grand Prix circuit in the heart of Steiermark province provided a magnificent backdrop as participants enjoyed perfect running weather.

Shared motivation to achieve personal bests

The App Run Event at the Red Bull Ring inspired hundreds of participants to achieve personal bests. The run started on the home straight of the Grand Prix circuit, where Formula 1 drivers and MotoGP riders normally line up on the grid. The field of contestants was spurred on by Austrian motorsport professional Laura Kraihamer at the wheel of the aptly named ‘Cheering Car’. Two refreshment stations had been set up to provide the Wings for Life heroes with energy boosts.

After a total of over eight laps, a distance of 39,65 kilometres and a duration of nearly three hours, the virtual Catcher Car eventually caught up with Markus Lorberau, who was subsequently crowned App Run champion at the Red Bull Ring.
