Are you ready for an event of superlatives? The most powerful racing bikes, the world’s top riders and, as the icing on the cake, a musical goosebump moment courtesy of Granada. The neo-Austropop band from the Steiermark region will be performing the national anthem ‘Land der Berge’ (Land of Mountains) on the start-finish straight in their own inimitable folksy style. And, as you would expect, their trademark accordion will play a prominent role.
“The accordion is a traditional Viennese instrument, but it is also very important in the music of the Steiermark,” explains Thomas Petritsch, founder of Granada. The other members of the five-piece combo are accordionist Alexander Xidi Christof, guitarist Luskacz Custos, bassist Jürgen Schmidt and drummer Roland Hanslmeier.
The boys will be making their first appearance of the Spielberg weekend on Friday as headliners in the MotoGP Bike City. In their usual laid-back style, they will be entertaining fans with favourites from their repertoire such as ‘Feiawerk’, ‘Ottakring’, ‘Eh Ok’ and ‘Palmen am Balkon’.
