Welcome, Race Fans! How to have a relaxed journey to the F1

Here is the key information for your journey to the Red Bull Ring.

At the Formula 1 Rolex Großer Preis von Österreich 2022 from 8 to 10 July, tens of thousands of motorsport fans from all over the world will ensure for a special atmosphere. To ensure that the journey to the Red Bull Ring is stress-free, the motto for 2022 is take the train, bike or bus – they are not only stress-free, but also attractively priced and environmentally friendly.

The most important information at-a-glance:

  1. Arriving by train

With ÖBB Sparschiene tickets you can get to Knittelfeld train station quickly and easily from anywhere in Austria, and with the Freizeitticket from within Styria. From Knittelfeld train station, you can take the free shuttle bus to the Red Bull Ring and back again after the race. The free shuttle buses run every 20 minutes from Friday to Sunday between 08:00 and 20:00 and every 30 minutes from 20:00 to 23:00 (Sunday until 19:00).  Tip: Book your train ticket now on www.oebb.at and save.

  1. Arriving by bike

If you want to avoid the traffic, then the bike is a useful alternative. Anyone swapping the steering wheel for the saddle can use the central park & bike park at Therme Fohnsdorf, which can be reached via the S36 from both directions via the Judenburg-Ost exit. You continue from there on signposted cycle paths to the event complex. Bicycle parking is available in the immediate vicinity of the Red Bull Ring on the L503, Spielbergerstraße.

  1. Arriving by bus

If you have not yet booked a bus ticket online, you should act fast. Space in shuttle buses to the Formula 1 Rolex Großer Preis von Österreich 2022 is limited. Board at over 170 points and let yourself be taken straight to the race track on exclusive routes without traffic jams.  On race Sunday, the offer will be expanded even further to include express shuttles to the Formula 1 Rolex Großer Preis von Österreich 2022. The shuttles can be booked by anyone with a valid F1 event ticket.

  1. Arriving by car

Increased traffic congestion is to be expected over the F1 weekend. We therefore recommend that you arrive as early as possible and aim for an arrival time before 07:30. Planning your journey in advance can also save you a lot of time and hassle.

The following routes are recommended:

  • From Vienna / Eastern Austria: S6 – St. Michael junction – S36
  • From Graz / Southern Styria: A9 – Gleinalm tunnel – St. Michael junction – S36 or: A9 – Bad St. Leonhard – B78 Obdach – Weißkirchen in der Steiermark
  • From Salzburg: A10 – B96 – St. Michael im Lungau – Tamsweg – Murau – Judenburg
  • From Upper Austria: A9 – Bosrucktunnel – Trieben – B114 – Triebener Tauern – Pöls – via Judenburg or: A9 – Bosrucktunnel – St. Michael junction – S36
  • From Carinthia: B317 – Neumarkter Sattel – Judenburg – S36 or B78 – Weißkirchen in der Steiermark (follow signs there)
  • From the Schladming / Selzthal region: B320 – Liezen – B113 – Trieben (not A9) – B114 – Triebener Tauern – Pöls – via Judenburg to the Red Bull Ring (follow signs there)

Early arrival advised – observe the traffic management system on way to car parks

A traffic management system with information along the access routes makes your journey to the car parks, which are within walking distance of the race track, easier. If the current traffic is proving problematic, please follow the instructions of organisers. Tip: Write down your parking space number, which is indicated at the entrance to each parking space.

Getting to the campsites

The campsites are all located within walking distance of the Red Bull Ring. If you arrive on Wednesday or Thursday, you can reach your destination without any problems at all – and especially without traffic jams.  For those arriving on Friday or later, we recommend that you arrive before 09:00. In case of a later arrival, delays and diversions are to be expected. For the best possible management of arrivals, campers will be guided by LED information boards on Thursday along the S36 Murtal express road.

The best exits are:

  • Camping Pink, Green, Orange, Violet and Yellow: Knittelfeld West
  • Camping Blue and Red: Zeltweg West
