The last 350 cc world champion

Toni Mang was one of the stars of the 1980s, retiring in 1988 after 14 world championship seasons in which he won five world championship titles and 42 race victories. He was the last rider to win the title in the 350 cc class, which was held for the last time as part of the World Championship in 1982. His breakthrough came in 1975, when he finished sixth in his Grand Prix debut in Austria. In 1980, he achieved his first world championship title with four victories in the 250cc class and six podium finishes and was runner-up in the 350cc class. In a spectacular 1981 season, Mang won 15 Grands Prix – ten out of eleven races in the quarter-liter class and five more in the 350 class – and was deservedly crowned double world champion. With 33 victories in the 250 cc class, Mang is the rider with the most wins in this category.
